Ben Lomond: the mountain above Loch Lomond
One of Scotland’s most popular hill walks – with over 50,000 summit attempts a year.
Ben Lomond rises on the east shore of Loch Lomond in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. At 974 metres (3,193 ft) it is, according to the National Trust for Scotland, the most southerly Munro, Scotland’s southernmost mountain over 3,000 feet; over 50,000 people attempt the climb every year.
The main path starts at Rowardennan car park. The first mile runs through forest managed by Forestry and Land Scotland, then over open hillside cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. The mountain is free; you only pay for parking.
According to the Trust, on a clear day the summit view reaches from Ben Nevis in the north to the Galloway hills in the south and the islands of Mull, Islay and Arran in the west.
