Durmitor is one of the cheapest national parks in the atlas, and right now an increase is pending that many travel sites already list as decided.
Entry to Durmitor costs €5 per person per day according to the park authority's price list, including the visitor centre and nature trails. Children up to 15 pay nothing in any of Montenegro's five national parks. For comparison within the country: Skadarsko Jezero also costs €5, Biogradska Gora €4, Lovćen and Prokletije €3 each. The government approved these prices in 2023 on the park authority's proposal.
Since 26 December 2025 there has also been an annual card for €13.50, valid without limit in all five parks in 2026. At the current day price it pays off from your third day in a park, and if you are planning a round trip through Montenegro you will almost inevitably pass that point.
In early September 2026 Montenegrin media reported a proposal by the park authority: Durmitor would cost €8 in June, July and August and €6 for the rest of the year. The director justified this with an analysis of visitor numbers over several years; visits should be spread more evenly across the year and the busiest places relieved. By mid-August 2026 around 15 per cent more visitors came to Durmitor than in the previous year.
When we checked on 25 September 2026 it had not been approved: the park authority's price list still showed €5, and an operator with over 2,500 reviews also gave park entry as €5 in its list of exclusions. Several travel portals nevertheless already list €8 as the 2026 price. This page shows what applies, and will be updated as soon as the price list changes.

UNESCO inscribed the national park in 1980 and modified its boundaries in 2005. The World Heritage property covers 32,100 hectares; it is recognised for its scenic beauty, geology and biodiversity.

According to UNESCO, the town on the edge of the park is the country's most important ski resort. The visitor centre and the Black Lake are on the edge of town.

The park authority runs its own guided trips around the Durmitor Ring: €20 per person by minibus, €30 by off-road vehicle, park entry included in both.
Gray Line Montenegro · Day trip from the coast · 13 hours
Day trip from the Bay of Kotor to Durmitor, the Tara and Ostrog Monastery
Thirteen hours by minibus from Kotor, Budva, Tivat or Herceg Novi, with photo stops at the bay, the Durmitor massif, the Tara Canyon and Ostrog Monastery. Guided in English.
Departure Departure on the coast, with optional hotel pick-up.
Park entry is not included: the provider itself lists "entrance to Durmitor National Park (€5 per person)", as well as food and drink. That confirms the price currently in force. Expect a very long day on the bus; Ostrog Monastery lies outside the park. If you only want to see Durmitor, a night in Žabljak serves you better. No provider image used: the picture shows a canyon that cannot be clearly identified as the Tara. According to the provider, the Đurđevića Tara Bridge can no longer be crossed on foot from 8 August because of construction work. Cancellation up to 24 hours in advance.

Žabljak: Durmitor Ring Jeep Safari with Picnic & Guide
Four hours with a local guide at the wheel on the ring road around the massif: to the Momčilov Grad and Štuoc viewpoints, the highland village of Mala Crna Gora, above Sušica Canyon, through Nedajno and Trsa, with a picnic in the Piva mountains, then beneath Prutaš to Sedlo Pass and back to Žabljak.
Departure Pick-up at your accommodation in Žabljak, and back.
Included are the 4x4 ride, an English-speaking guide, pick-up and drop-off in Žabljak and a traditional picnic; personal expenses and tips are not. The page does not mention park entry. The ring road runs through the national park, for instance over Sedlo Pass and past the Sušica hut; the provider does not say whether every stop lies inside the park. The page lists English, Serbian and Serbo-Croatian as languages, yet its notes say the tour is in English. At most six people per vehicle; not suitable for people with reduced mobility. The park authority also runs trips around the Durmitor Ring itself, by minibus or 4x4 with park entry included (see Getting there). Free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance.
Since 26 December 2025 the park authority has sold an annual card for 2026. It is valid without limit in all five national parks and costs €13.50; at the current day price it pays off from your third day in a park. You can buy it at the ticket offices in the park, at the office in Podgorica and online.
In early September 2026 the press reported a proposal by the park authority: Durmitor would cost €8 in June, July and August and €6 for the rest of the year. The aim is to spread visits across the year. Up to 25 September 2026 the price list still showed €5.
Several travel portals already list €8 as the 2026 price. As far as we can tell this is a proposal, not the fee in force: an operator with over 2,500 reviews also gives €5 in its list of exclusions.
In 2023 the government approved the current prices on the park authority's proposal: Durmitor and Skadarsko Jezero €5, Biogradska Gora €4, Lovćen and Prokletije €3. A new increase has to go the same way.
Fires are only allowed at purpose-built sites; the park authority charges €5 a day for this, wood included. The authority runs its own projects against forest fires in Durmitor and in the Tara catchment.
UNESCO names brown bear, wolf and wildcat among the park's large mammals. It sees the continued presence of large carnivores as a sign of ecological integrity.
