Mossman Gorge: the southern section of the Daintree
A river cutting its way through granite and rainforest.
Mossman Gorge lies in the southern section of Daintree National Park, 80 km (50 mi) north of Cairns. Over millions of years the Mossman River has cut a steep valley here; the water flows over large granite boulders carried down from the slopes by floods. The area is Eastern Kuku Yalanji Country.
A shuttle runs from the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre into the gorge, 2 km to the day-use area. From there short boardwalks and paths lead to the river, and a loop goes into the rainforest.
The park has no entry fee, but the shuttle does: A$15.50 for adults, valid for unlimited trips on the day of purchase.
