Sugiton: the calanque on the edge of the city
By city bus to Luminy, on foot via the Belvédère and down – in high summer only with a reservation.
The Calanque de Sugiton lies in Calanques National Park on the southern edge of Marseille. From the “Luminy – PN des Calanques” bus stop, the park gives around 30 minutes to the Belvédère at 245 m (804 ft) and around 45 minutes to the calanque; the way back is at least one hour uphill. On peak summer days you need a free reservation for the shore.
There are actually two small, deeply cut coves, each with a tiny beach; the islet of Le Torpilleur marks the spot. Right next to them are the Pierres Tombées, whose eastern part is used by naturists in summer.
The city of Marseille estimates 200,000 to 300,000 visitors a year; on peak days up to 2,500 came. That is why a reservation has applied on selected summer days since 2022, and the park has extended it until 2027.
