What your group pays

Who is coming, and for how many days? The conservation fee is charged per 24 hours from entry, for everyone aged 5 and over. On a safari with an operator, the vehicle drops out.

Foreigners resident in Tanzania pay 89,425, citizens of the East African Community 10,000 shillings per adult.

The conservation fee is your admission to the park. Vehicle, campsite, balloon and the transit through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area cost extra.

Balloon safari at sunrise

Around an hour over the plains, then breakfast in the bush. According to the tariff database, the balloon park fee of 127,750 shillings per person comes on top.

Sunrise balloon safari with bush breakfast

Transfer before dawn to the launch site, around an hour in the balloon wherever the wind takes you, then sparkling wine and breakfast under an acacia and the drive back to your camp or lodge. Depending on the season, flights start from four sites: all year at Seronera, from June to October at Kirawira in the west, from June to November at Kogatende in the north and from mid-December to the end of March at Ndutu.

Departure Pick-up from camps and lodges up to around two hours' drive or 40 km (25 mi) from the launch sites, start time 5:00; tickets are issued the day before at the operator's office at the Seronera visitor centre, in Kirawira, Ndutu or Kogatende.

Where the balloon launches depends on the season: Seronera, Kirawira and Kogatende are in the park, Ndutu is in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area outside the park. After landing there is a bush breakfast with sparkling wine. Booking closes at 17:00 the day before; free cancellation up to 24 hours before, cancellation possible in bad weather. Not for children under 7, not wheelchair accessible, not recommended during pregnancy or with back or heart problems. Guide in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese.

How much is the Serengeti entrance fee?

178,850 Tanzanian shillings per adult per 24 hours for visitors from outside East Africa, from 16 May to 14 March, including 18 per cent VAT. Children aged 5 to 15 pay 51,100, children under 5 enter free.

What do two adults pay for three days?

357,700 shillings per 24 hours, 1,073,100 for three days. Vehicle, campsite and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area fee come on top unless they are in the safari price.

How long is the fee valid?

24 hours from the time you enter, not from midnight. The transit through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area requires that area's own daily fee.

Is there a cheaper low season?

The 2023/2024 tariff list had a lower entrance fee from 15 March to 15 May. The 2026/27 tariff database lists the adult rate only for 16 May to 14 March and gives no separate amount for the weeks in between.

How do I pay the entrance fee?

Electronically only: in advance through the authority's online reservation, at the gate by Visa or Mastercard, or by M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa and Airtel Money. Cash is not accepted.
