Monterosso: beach, station and the path to Vernazza
The northernmost of the five villages — and the only one with large car parks.
Monterosso al Mare lies in the north of Cinque Terre National Park, about 70 metres (230 ft) inside the park by the OpenStreetMap boundary. The village has two parts: the modern resort of Fegina with the station and a long beach, and the medieval old town behind the rock with the Torre Aurora. This is where the Sentiero Azzurro to Vernazza starts, which requires the card.
With the 5 Terre Express you get here from La Spezia in about 25 minutes, from Levanto in a few minutes. The municipality runs the Fegina car park with 270 and the Loreto car park with 160 spaces; from 26 March to 1 November 2026 an hour costs €3, a day €30.
The Sentiero Azzurro to Vernazza is 3.7 kilometres (2.3 mi) long and takes two hours according to the park authority. Since 24 August 2026 the section near Servano has been closed; the path remains accessible via Via Corone. Without a card you can walk to Punta Mesco and the sanctuary of Soviore.
