Cape of Good Hope: one gate, two lighthouses, one funicular
The only fenced section of Table Mountain National Park — fee per person, paid per car.
The Cape of Good Hope section is the only fenced part of Table Mountain National Park. Eland, red hartebeest, bontebok and zebra live here, and two lighthouses stand at the tip. Bartolomeu Dias called the cape the “Cape of Storms” in 1488; King John II of Portugal gave it its present name.
At the gate international visitors pay R515 per adult and R250 per child until 31 October 2026, then R592 and R288. Payment is by card only and once per vehicle. The gate opens from October to March at 6:00 and closes at 18:00; from April to September it is 7:00 to 17:00.
From the car park at Cape Point the Flying Dutchman funicular takes about three minutes up to the old lighthouse; you can also walk. The Cape of Good Hope proper, with the well-known sign, lies to the west on a separate road.
