Moraine Lake: only by shuttle, tour or bike

The road to the lake is closed to private cars all year.

Moraine Lake lies in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) from the village of Lake Louise. Moraine Lake Road is closed to private vehicles all year; only Parks Canada shuttles, licensed tour operators and guests of Moraine Lake Lodge may drive up.

Parks Canada treats the lake as backcountry: no mobile signal, no Wi-Fi, no running water, no lighting, only pit toilets. You only get reception about five kilometres down the road.

From 1 June to 12 October, the shuttle runs every 30 minutes from the Park and Ride at the ski resort. The Lake Connector links Moraine Lake and Lake Louise; if you want to be at the lake very early, take the Alpine Start shuttle at 4:00 or 5:00.
