The Banff Gondola: eight minutes up Sulphur Mountain

The real outing starts at the top: a boardwalk along the ridge.

The Banff Gondola runs from the edge of the town of Banff up Sulphur Mountain. The ride takes about eight minutes on a route of about 1.6 kilometres (1 mi); the enclosed cabins hold four people and are usually filled. At the top, a boardwalk with 368 shallow steps runs along the ridge.

The gondola runs all year, apart from a short maintenance break in November. Depending on the season it opens between 8:00 and 10:00 and closes between 21:00 and 22:00.

If you hike up, you can ride down for half price. If you ride up and want to walk down, you need a full ticket.
