Lake Bohinj: large, clear and strictly regulated
Short-stay parking only, no cycling in places, swimming at just two spots, but a boat across the lake.
Lake Bohinj (Bohinjsko jezero) is Slovenia's largest natural lake and lies in a glacial basin in Triglav National Park. It holds almost 100 million m³ of water, is fed by the Savica and drains via the Jezernica. At its western end, Savica Waterfall plunges 78 m (256 ft) from the rock face.
The lake is not a bathing lake with a hotel shoreline. Right by the water you may park for no more than two hours; the municipality recommends leaving the car further away and taking the seasonal buses. The 24-hour ticket costs €2.
Two electric boats run between Ribčev Laz in the east and Ukanc in the west. Swimming is allowed at two designated areas, Fužinski Bay and Ukanc. In the park's high-mountain lakes, by contrast, swimming is prohibited.
